Leg 9: Port McNeill to Campbell River

Route map & overnight stops:
Lagoon Cove (W. Cracroft Island)
Forward Harbour
Frederick Arm
Gorge Harbour (Cortes Island)
Crew - Tom & Liz by themselves

Just kidding...we didn't do the whole way in our kayaks!
We slip through Knight Inlet under overcast skies and over steel grey seas ...

...while points of land accordion-pleat away from us.

Meanwhile this doe is
working so hard swimming across Knight Inlet, she leaves a wake!
We watch her finally climb up a steep rocky outcrop, rest, then disappear
into the underbrush.

We anchor in Forward
Harbour near these
two beauties, both 1929 classic wooden boats;
the larger one named Deerleap, the smaller Island Runner.

It's hard to get far
from logging here. In the head of Frederick Arm,
we anchor by a log boom in progress & go ashore (note name of boat by our
dinghy).

Then...and now

Weathered tree stumps
seem like a forest cemetery,
near where we spot our Onward at anchor next to the log boom (unseen!)
The truth is that we all still use wood & wood products extensively.
