Summary Log - Leg 4

This leg featured many short voyages leading up to one long one, across fearsome Hecate Strait between the British Columbia mainland and Haida Gwaii (the Queen Charlottes). Our travels included both sea and land explorations. All our anchorages were new to us: scenic, isolated, and peaceful. We kayaked frequently. We were blessed with a smooth crossing of Hecate Strait from Larsen Harbour to Sandspit without having to wait for a weather-window. Our layover in Sandspit Harbour allowed us to explore Graham Island by car and foot. We visited all three of Haida Gwaii’s museums in Masset, Port Clement and Skidegate, took a forest tour, beachcombed at Yakan Point on the north shore, and attended a music festival in Tlell.

Leg 4 stats: 17 days total, 8 travel days (25.0 hours of motoring averaging 3.1 hours per travel day), 160.6 miles covered at an average speed of 6.4 knots; 9 nights in the Prince Rupert and Sandspit marinas.
