Summary Log for this Leg (8)

Summary Log for Leg 8: We were totally immersed in the nooks and crannies of Barkley Sound, spending hours in our kayaks looking down at fabulous sea life and up at trees sculpted by gales from the sea. We crossed wakes in the Pacific Rim National Park with many adventurers in sea kayaks who were paddling and camping in among all these islands. We also met and chatted with hardy folk who live year-round on houseboats secured to the shore or tucked into tiny coves. We also had our last long “outside” passage in the fog and rain down around the southwest end of Vancouver Island through the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Now we are back in civilization, plunging into the mysteries of ancient Egypt at the museum, and people-watching the crowds which swirl through Victoria’s harbourside.

Leg 8 stats: 12 days total, 9 travel days (26.7 hours of motoring averaging 3.0 hours per travel day), 175.2 miles covered at an average speed of 6.6 knots; one night at a dock in Tofino and two nights at the dock in Victoria).
