Summary Log - Leg 7

Summary: Liz joined the “all men’s leg”, which included Nap Hosang and Todd Olsen for the fourth time and Phil Rasori for the second time. We kayaked in seawater and fresh water lakes, swam and hiked trails, and traveled almost the full length of Johnstone Strait in a dead calm. We saw orcas by Robson Bight, a bear in Port Neville, one or more seals in every cove, lots of loons, eagles, kingfishers, mergansers, and gulls of all descriptions. As is usual with this group, fishing grabbed the time, attention and delight of the hunter-gatherers. Meals took on a life of their own, with Nap the gourmet chef, Todd a mean salad & sandwich-maker, Phil the 5-star oyster preparer, and Tom a dish-washing dynamo. Liz was excused from galley duty, and enjoyed it all. The leg was a fitting celebration of Onward’s last hurrah with us.

Leg 7 stats:
10 days total, 7 travel days (26 hours of motoring averaging 3.7 hours per travel day), 167 miles covered at an average speed of 6.4 knots; 1 night each at the Port McNeill and Campbell River marina docks.)
